PART II

ACTIVITIES YOU CAN DO

Part II of this kit contains a variety of intergenerational activities. Many can be adapted for children of different ages. There are also activities for older adults with physical or cognitive limitations.

Each activity starts with its "connections" -- a recommendation of its appropriateness for families, schools, seniors groups/facilities, and/or community groups. In general, connections are prioritized; but in many cases all connections are equally valid. For schools, curriculum connections are listed. Then you'll find a list of all the materials you need and step-by-step directions.

Reading and discussing Something to Remember Me By, the storybook that inspired the national Legacy Project, can be the starting point that leads into other activities.

After the Story Steppingstones section, the Love-ly Crafts & Gifts section suggests meaningful gift ideas for young and old. The Heart to Heart section looks at the heart in all its dimensions, from organ to symbol, all from an intergenerational perspective. Included is information for "linking hearts young & old" by visiting older adults in nursing homes and other care facilities, and a Big Heart Award certificate.

Note that books and websites mentioned in the text are fully referenced in the annotated bibliographies at the end of this kit.
