Community Initiatives
Legacy Project
The Legacy Project's community outreach initiatives are all about
building community online and in the real world.

Legacy Project Community Initiatives

We offer engaging and inspiring school presentations, personal and professional development workshops, and keynotes. Our annual Listen to a Life Essay Contest receives thousands of entries each year. The Dream Exhibit is traveling to museums across the country. Connect Your Community offers ideas for great community events you can create. Share The Dream encourages you to get creative with a YouTube video. Un-Ad Revolution is a chance to celebrate what really matters to you. Children and teens are becoming TreeKeepers in support of the global Earth Charter and the Legacy Center arboretum. Legacy DIY helps you create your own mini legacy project. You can record a Life Statement as a blueprint for living. And Tulsa, OK, is serving as a national model for Legacy Community Building. Create, Connect, Change with the Legacy Project at www.legacyproject.org.

Presentations/Workshops

Inspiring, engaging, high-energy – Dream Discovery school presentations for elementary through high school grades. Encourage text and visual literacy skills, systems thinking, and cross-curricular connections, while helping students identify and reach for their goals to make a difference in their own lives and our world. The Dream Chain links participating schools in a very special way.

Legacy Project Chair, educator, and bestselling author Susan V. Bosak is also a popular keynote speaker, and leads personal and professional development workshops. Her presentations inform and inspire all ages.

Listen to a Life Contest

Travel time in the Legacy Project's annual Listen to a Life Essay Contest. A young person 8-18 years interviews an older adult 50 years or over to learn about their past experiences and send a message into the future. The Grand Prize Timeless Award is a Lenovo ThinkCentre computer and a special Legacy keepsake timepiece. In addition to this annual contest, each week we give away free books!

Un-Ad Revolution

Join the Legacy Project in an Un-Ad Revolution. It's a little tongue-in-cheek and a little rebellious. It's your chance to take a stand about what really matters to you by posting your own un-ad and be inspired by the un-ads of others. What if the world was filled with ideas and values rather than ads? more

Can a tree change your classroom or family? TreeKeepers is a powerful, effective way for young people to get more connected with the natural world and learn about environmental issues while building literacy, science, social studies, character and life skills. Your participation in TreeKeepers also helps support the global Earth Charter and the ecological legacy of the Legacy Center arboretum. more

Life Statements

Life Statements, image © Ben Mobley | Dreamstime.com

Adults and young people can take a journey of self-discovery by creating a Life Statement. In keeping with the tradition in some cultures of writing an ethical will – which, instead of passing along valuables, passes along values – a Life Statement is a way to explore who you are, your relationships with others, and your impact on the world. Using our simple templates, you can create and permanently record a Life Statement that shares your most significant life experiences, ideas, values, and hopes. It's a blueprint for living and a gift to others as part of a meaningful online learning community. more

Legacy Community Building

The City of Tulsa, Oklahoma, and the Legacy Project have partnered to create a model for Legacy Community Building that addresses changing demographics in the context of the bigger picture. Legacy Community Building takes into consideration needs across a person's lifetime, needs between generations, and even global needs like the environment. Tulsa wants to lead the country as a city that recognizes, respects, and meets the needs of all ages and brings generations together in support of each other. more
