PART I

INFORMATION YOU CAN USE

Part I of this kit starts with an overview of the Something to Remember Me By Legacy Project and introduces some of the ideas behind the national project.

Then the Fast Family Facts section offers a quick snapshot of "family" today and how it has evolved. There are also some statistics about mothers.

Many people believe Mother's Day was developed as a commercial holiday to sell cards, candy, and flowers. Or, they may believe it's a day solely to celebrate the domestic role of women in the home and family. Not true! Find out the real story behind the holiday in The Story of Mother's Day section.

The Celebrating Mothers & Grandmothers section offers a variety of perspectives on mothers and motherhood, and includes a list of some famous and historical mothers.

Make sure you read all about the Legacy Project Mother's Day Contest that runs until May 31, 2003. The theme of the contest is, "I opened the cedar chest and inside I found..." To enter, write about a special keepsake in your family.

Note that books and websites mentioned in the text are fully referenced in the annotated bibliographies at the end of this kit.
