PART I

INFORMATION YOU CAN USE

Part I of this kit starts with an overview of the Something to Remember Me By Legacy Project and introduces some of the ideas behind the national project.

Facts, statistics, and background information are then provided to help you better understand today's grandparents and the importance of intergenerational relationships.

After some history on National Grandparents Day and the value of Grandparents Day events in general, there's a section that gives you everything you need to plan your own Grandparents Day event -- a planning guide with different models; invitations, nametags, information flyers, and evaluation forms; ideas for food, decorations & displays, and registration; how to use an event for fundraising and volunteer outreach; and comments, stories, and advice from across the country.

Make sure you read all about the 2001 Intergenerational Contest that runs through September and October, 2001. Teams of children and grandparents/grandfriends can win a Lane Cedar Chest with an IBM NetVista Computer inside!

Note that books and websites mentioned in the text are fully referenced in the annotated bibliographies at the end of this kit.
