A Special Note to Families

This Grandparents Day Activity Kit has a lot of information. Here are some tips for finding the information of most interest and use to you.

Much of Part I of the kit is directed primarily at schools and community groups who are running a Grandparents Day event. You can skim through the information, reading what catches your interest. But do take a moment to find out Why Grandparents Are VIPs and also learn the history of National Grandparents Day (in the Grandparents Day: Celebrating Grandparents and Older Adults section).

Part II in this kit contains a wide variety of great activity ideas, many of which can be done by families. You can use them to celebrate National Grandparents Day, or enjoy them any time of the year. Activities labeled Family Fun "Homework" are especially appropriate for children, parents, and grandparents. Many activities can be used with the storybook that inspired the national Legacy Project, Something to Remember Me By.

The website also has free certificates you can download for grandparents -- "Grandparents Are VIPs" and "Greatest Grandparent" and "Grandparent Award".

Part III recommends useful websites and organizations, books for parents and grandparents, and a list of intergenerational storybooks you can share with children and grandchildren.
