WISHING WANDS

Celebrate the last day of school in style

During their annual Star Festival,
the Japanese write wishes on strips of paper, tie them to sticks, and wave them up at the stars in the hope that their wish will come true.

Make the last day of school a party with wishing wands for everyone. Cut a strip of paper about 2 inches wide by 11 inches long. On the strip of paper, you can write either an important goal you've accomplished in the last school year or a goal you'd like to achieve next year. For example, maybe you got an "A" in Math this year after a lot of hard work and studying; or maybe you'd like to aim to improve your Math grade next year.

Write your goal in big letters along the strip. Then decorate the strip with bright colors and glitter.

Tape the strip to a straw.

On the last day of school, the whole class can sing a special song or do a class cheer while waving their wishing wands. You can even have a wishing wand parade through the hallway of the school. Celebrate achievements past and future!
