In her often-quoted call to action, anthropologist Margaret Mead reminds us to "never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has."
By joining the Legacy Project,
your "me" becomes a bigger "we." The Legacy Project is the only international, multigenerational education initiative that enhances the education children and teens receive in school, and offers lifelong learning opportunities for all ages. Education is the means through which we fulfill our greatest potential and leave a meaningful legacy for generations to come. Without new approaches to education that look at the bigger picture, there will be no solutions, inventions, discoveries, cures – or hope.
With the Legacy Project's emphasis on literacy and big-picture thinking skills based on social science research, the concept of legacy is fundamentally the most powerful concept we have for addressing the challenges of the twenty-first century.
Legacy is the coming together of what you have been given, what you can create, and what you give back. It is expressed through your individual efforts, your relationships with others, and the ways you choose to shape the world around you – reflected in the Legacy Project's three banner programs LifeDreams, Across Generations, and Our World.
There are four ways you can support the Legacy Project:
Use Your Buying Power
We all vote with our dollars every day. We tell stores and manufacturers what we value every time we purchase a product or service.
The most basic way you can support the Legacy Project is by purchasing our books and other resources, either in bookstores or using our online catalog. For example, Dream and A Little Something are meaningful gift books for family and friends; you can also purchase copies to donate to your local school or a community group (e.g. Boys and Girls Club).
Proceeds from book sales go toward making all of the Legacy Project's programs and free online resources possible.
Become a Member
Lifetime membership is a one-time cost of $250. There are no annual renewal fees.
By becoming a member of the Legacy Project, you directly support our educational work and the new Legacy Center.
You'll periodically receive special offers and advance discounts on new books and resources, and you'll have "front of the line" privileges for workshops at the Legacy Center and those run across the US and Canada. You also get a free Life Statement (a $170 value).
While we certainly appreciate your monetary support, we also
value your life wisdom. By creating, recording, and sharing your Life Statement, not only do you make a difference through this online learning community, but you also create a blueprint for living and a meaningful gift for others.
Sponsor a Tree
For a one-time cost of $5,000, you get all the membership benefits described above PLUS a permanent name plaque on one of the specimen-quality trees that are part of the Legacy Center's arboretum. Sponsoring a tree is particularly appropriate to celebrate the birth of a child or grandchild.
By sponsoring a tree in the arboretum, you help to plant new trees and sustain the existing trees. You help improve the environmental legacy our generation is leaving and become part of an international environmental education program through the site itself and the online resources and books developed based on the arboretum that will reach millions of children and adults.
Trees have existed on Earth for hundreds of millions of years. Most trees long outlive people, with 100-200 years being a typical lifespan. Trees are the largest of living things – some species grow over 300 feet tall and may weigh 600 tons.
By taking in carbon dioxide and giving off oxygen, trees help combat global warming. Every tree anywhere on our planet makes a difference. The leaves and fruits of trees provide food and medicines for animals and people. Trees provide a site for nests for birds. They provide shade in the hottest of temperatures, reduce noise pollution, prevent soil erosion, and are often used as windbreaks to shelter sensitive crops. Trees add beauty to our world, they lift our spirits. One interesting research study showed that surgery patients who could see a grove of trees recuperated faster and required less pain-killing medication than matched patients who viewed only brick walls. Trees also provide important symbolic links with the past – think of the chestnut tree made famous in Anne Frank's diary.
A tree in the Legacy Center's arboretum is a living, lasting gift you can give to our world. You will receive a photo of your tree and name plaque, and the photo and your name will appear on the Legacy Project website.
Invest in Us
For those able to make a social investment of $25,000 or more, the new Legacy Center offers a fully-secured investment opportunity to create a
living legacy expressing who you are while supporting an
international education project.
There is a need for more
meaningful and rich lifelong learning opportunities for all ages.
This will not only ensure individuals remain connected to an
ever-changing world and we remain competitive in the global marketplace, but also that real change becomes more possible. The Legacy Center will reach millions of children, teens, and adults
offering an opportunity to develop individual potential,
intergenerational connections, and environmental change. The new building will inspire and educate, providing a unique environment for the sharing of ideas and information. With a view of majestic trees and sparkling water, the Legacy Center will be both an educational site and a demonstration project. It will include a library, exhibit gallery, and workshop space.
This social investment is an opportunity to put your money to work in
an important educational project with international reach, to
receive a fully-secured financial return, and
to create a meaningful and lasting personal legacy.
Education opens minds and opportunities. It is one of the most important, fundamental things we can do to benefit individuals and our world. We invite you to become a part of this online community – "a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens [who] can change the world."
